Finding a place to go overwhelmed me as well. It took all of Patrick’s patience and the children’s jealous enthusiasm for me to try. I didn’t want to go far away, in France in any case. In fact, I didn’t want to go to a hotel, I didn’t want to go off on my own. “If that’s what it takes, said Patrick, let’s look for a little house and I’ll come and join you at the weekend”.
Yes, but where?
The region of France with the mildest weather in the winter is often the Basque coast. There’s the sea. I don’t like cold but I like the sea and I like to gaze at the rolling ocean waves. Let’s go for the Basque coast.
I found an adorable house on the Internet: the Villa Kaioa, at Bidart, between Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, with a lovely view of the sea.
By chance, Adeline, the owner, agreed to move the rental times from Monday to Monday. So Patrick could meet me on Thursday evening and spend 3 proper days with me, play a bit of golf.
My programme: resting, walking on the beach, some thalassotherapy… why not? Reading by the fireside and eating well. Looking after myself.
I didn’t want to be on my own, but 3 days would pass quickly.
2 days before leaving, we had dinner with my best friend and her husband. Caroline is a painter; for a few months she had been complaining of lack of inspiration. Why don’t I come with you? You wouldn’t be alone and the men can come and join us to play golf at the end of the week.
There are 3 rooms at Villa Kaioa for 6 persons.
